The Problem We Saw Everywhere

We kept watching the same frustration play out with friends, family, and colleagues. Someone would say "I need a website for my business" or "I want to launch this idea quickly." And then we'd hear one of two stories:

1. "I spent three months and $5,000 hiring a web developer." The website looks great, but they're locked into updates and changes that require paying someone else.
2. "I used Wix and Squarespace." It was quick and cheap, but the final result felt generic. And now I'm stuck paying monthly forever even though my site barely changes.

There had to be a better way. Something that was fast, affordable, and produced something you could actually be proud of.

What We Wanted to Build

We weren't trying to build a tool for developers. We were trying to solve this: how do you let anyone create a professional, modern website in a matter of hours instead of weeks or months?

The tools we looked at were either magical (but locked you in) or open (but required you to code). We wanted both.

Unshift is three things working together:

2. A Visual Editor That Actually Works

Drag blocks onto your page. Swap their order with one click. Change colors. Edit text. Upload your own images. See every change happen instantly. No "save and refresh" delays. No hidden code hiding behind the UI.

3. AI That Generates Real Pages

Connect your own AI assistant (Claude or ChatGPT) to Unshift, then tell it what you want in plain English (no prompting tricks needed). It builds actual, working pages in your account using your blocks and design system. Not some janky placeholder. Real, polished sites you can launch today. Because inference runs on your own provider account, there are no per-build fees and your prompts never pass through us.

The Magic: Switch Mode

One of our favorite features is something we call Switch Mode. You're building your site, and you realize one section would look better with a different layout. In most builders, you'd have to delete the section and start over.

With Unshift, you click "switch." Your content stays, but the section rearranges instantly. You see three different layout options for the same content. Pick the one that feels right.

Pricing That Doesn't Trap You

We didn't build Unshift to charge you for sites you are not even using yet. Our pricing philosophy:

• You can start completely free. Build unlimited drafts at no cost, and publish up to three sites on free *.unshift.dev addresses without paying a thing.
• You only pay when you publish. Pro is $20/month per published site, which adds a custom domain with managed SSL, traffic analytics, collaborators, code export, and removes Unshift branding. No live site, no charge.
• No AI credits to buy or run out of. You connect your own AI assistant once, and inference runs on your provider account. There is no metered AI usage on your Unshift bill.

You're not paying for a tool you barely touch. A draft you are still tinkering with costs nothing. You pay for a site only once it is live and earning its keep.

What Makes This Different
