Build a consultant website from a finished template
A practical brief for an independent consultant website: explain your offer, show honest examples, add a contact path, and publish with Unshift.
Your website should help a prospective client answer three questions: can you help with my problem, what would working together look like, and how do I contact you? Start with those answers, then choose a design.
This guide uses Quorum, an existing Unshift consultancy template, as a starting point. Its public preview contains demonstration content. Replace its people, statistics, client stories and legal details with your own before using the site for your business.
Preview Quorum or open the Editor template catalogue. Sign in or create an account, find Quorum, preview its pages, then choose Use template. This link opens the catalogue; it does not select a template automatically.
Prepare the words before changing the layout
Write a short brief with your audience, the problem you solve, three services, one honest example of your approach and a contact method. You do not need a brand manifesto to get started.
Here is an illustrative brief for a fictional independent operations consultant:
Audience: small teams whose client onboarding depends on scattered documents.
Offer: make the handoff from sale to delivery easier to follow.
Services: workflow review, onboarding design, and team documentation.
Example: a clearly labelled sample onboarding checklist, not a client result.
Contact: an enquiry form asking about the team and its current process.
Turn that into a specific headline, such as “Make client onboarding easier for your team to run.” Use the next sentence to explain what you do. Avoid claiming a percentage improvement or naming clients unless you can support it.
Make the template your site
Choosing Use template copies the design into your account and opens the visual editor. The normal template flow also starts its first publication, so check the free address and replace sample content promptly.
Edit the heading and introduction first. Then replace the service descriptions with the three things a client can actually engage you to do. Keep the language concrete: what you review, what you deliver and who it is for.
Review every page, including the header and footer. A template may contain sample team profiles, journal articles, case studies, registration details and contact links outside the homepage. Remove sections you do not need and use only real business details. A sample project can demonstrate your thinking, provided it is clearly described as a sample.
Select the text or image you want to change in the visual editor. Check the Pages panel for every page included in the template, rather than editing only the homepage.
Give visitors one useful next step
Use a clear action such as “Discuss your project.” Link it to your contact section or contact page. A simple enquiry form needs a name, reply address and a short description of the problem. Explain what happens after submission without promising a response time you cannot maintain.
Check the form configuration and its recipient, then submit your own test enquiry and verify delivery. A contact button that looks right is not enough.
Check the phone view and publish your changes
Preview the site at a phone width. Read the entire page, check that service text stays readable, follow the navigation and test the contact action. Remove sample claims and placeholder destinations before publishing your updated version. Open the published address in a separate tab to check the result.
